Jess’ 4th Annual Pumpkin Carving Night

by dianuzziello

Every year on the Saturday night before Halloween, my sister, aka “The Hostess with the Mostess, Jessica” throws her annual Pumpkin carving night. It is a night filled with tons of fun, food, carving and laughs … for everyone except me. Because I have a whole year to forget how much of a perfectionist she is, I (not so smartly) agree to accompany her for the day and “help her out”. It starts off all sweet and lovely and then quickly turns into a lecture about how I am taking over her party and she wants to cancel it. (I have video proof). Jess is completely obsessed with Halloween. Hence – the party happening! She decorates the entire house (and even the outside) and every corner of the place is thought about.

It starts off about a month before with the evite going out. This year she made it very clear that not everyone was invited back from last year. A few of her reasons:

  • Did not bring an adequate dessert that satisfied strict entry requirements
  • Failed to recognize host had – by far – the best carving of the night
  • Disregarded the BYOPCK (bring your own pumpkin carving kit) rule

This is word for word from her invite. All joking aside, it’s a great night to get together with friends and fam, and have a little friendly competition for who carves the best pumpkin. Here are a some pics of the decor before the guests arrived!

And now for when the guests started coming in and the carving began… please note there are a few not pictured because of their tardiness. I am sure this will be included on next years invite (if they end up getting one!).

And finally… the best part of the night. Lighting our pumpkins and figuring out that once again that my brothers fiancé, Miss. Michelle (she is a teacher and I justify it every year by claiming she has more practice than everyone else here) has the best pumpkin of the night. This year, though, the head of the skeleton fell off and I was secretly excited but played it off like “Oh wow, really, that sucks so bad…” And then OBVIOUSLY she fixed it like a professional and you could not even tell… Don’t worry, I am not bitter… 🙂

And there you have it! The 4th Annual Pumpkin Carving night comes to a close… and it was better than ever! Thanks to my sister for hosting the best party and thanks to me for putting up with her! It was all worth it. 🙂 Oh, and lastly, thank you to all who sweetly bought her decorations (you know who you are!!!).

Dana- what a great post! Seriously, the pumpkin carving was at a level I haven’t seen before! Totally agree with the winner being the skeleton that looked like it was climbing out of the pumpkin- AWESOME! I am such a child, that I had a huge smile on my face seeing the skeleton banner in the pics and then your final comment. Dana- you are definitely on the right path with blogging. Your honesty about the party, sibling squabbles (despite the fact that it is evident that you love Jess very much), and how the evening went is refreshing and entertaining. People will enjoy reading your blogs because although you show beautiful stuff you aren’t making everyone else feel less about themselves because you always pepper them with reality. Congrats!

You’re a very talented group. I’d never warrant an invite, but I’m not bitter about it lol.

Ask Jess if I can get an invite for next year when some of these don’t make the cut. I will bake brownies, turn up on time and pretend to like carving pumpkins :). Seriously looks like a great time and fabulous pumpkin carving!
